That one time I wore lipstick

I always always always wear chapstick.  And when I want to feel really good about myself, I  throw on some lightly colored lipgloss.  Basically, it’s just a little shimmer. But I’ve been noticing that in all my photoshoots, my lips have disappeared.  So I keep thinking to myself that I should add more color to my lip routine.  Que Joey and her comment about Wet N Wild lipstick {at $2} being her favorite. Ok, I can try that.  So I bought it several weeks ago but never even peeled the plastic off. But when this pink blouse got pulled out… Read More

Weekending: the laid-back edition

Typically, our weekends are anything but laid-back.  I like to go and see and do on the weekends since there’s no time for it Monday-Friday. But during basketball season, it’s nice to just have some down time since we don’t get it. Friday night was started off with two wins!  Mom and dad made the drive to come watch and then we went grab some Japanese.  We had great conversation and it was fun to have them here for a bit.  By 10:00 we were all yawning. Our original plan for the weekend was to pack up Saturday morning and… Read More

If you’ve been around here long, you know that I’m in the middle of basketball season and that takes up all my time. For you, the busy season is probably something else.  Whether it’s work, home, a combination of the two… I know you’ve been there. So here are some ways I’ve learned to cope when time seems to disappear. 1. Get ahead. It’s crucial to use the weekends.  Find time to do all the laundry, cook some meals that can easily be reheated, start with a clean, organized house. It will save you tons of time and let’s face it… Read More

A look back

I’ve had a great time reflecting on 2014 and starting 2015.  And with that, I thought this would be the perfect time to look back on my favorite fashion posts. {Well, that and the rain prevented any pictures from being taken this weekend.} #workinggirlprobs I love this houndstooth jacket.  So much style and warmth all in one! There’s just something so simple about this sparkly sweater paired with the black skinnies.  Can’t go wrong, right? I love finding new ways to incorporate scarves into my look.  Well, that and my love of distressed denim. Speaking of scarves… This solid black is… Read More

{The unexpected} Style icon

When Jana and Maegen posted their January lineup The Creative Closet linkup, today’s prompt caught my eye immediately. Style icon. Who is my style icon?  When no one immediately came to mind, the English teacher nerd inside of me started thinking about the definition of an icon. Here’s what the Internet had to say about it: 1. a person who is very successful and admired 2.  a widely known symbol One of my favorite things about style is how it’s always evolving.  I love how things go out and come back in.  Change – it’s the great constant. So with… Read More

Ringing in 2015 + a little more

Yesterday morning I told David I could live my life in Christmas break mode all year long.  It was the perfect amount of busy and free time.  Because if I get too much free time, I get so bored and wish there was something going on.  And over break there definitely was.  It was busy.  It was busy with things and people I love. But we’re back into the swing of things.  So here we go!  Let’s make it a good one! #firstmondayof2015 Our New Year’s Even was laid back and perfect.  Here’s a few pictures we snapped as we… Read More

December recap + January goals

1.  Make a new recipe again. Does all the Christmas baking count?  K, good. 2.  Have devotions on the weekend. I didn’t do this consistently enough so it’ll rollover into January.  David got me a book for Christmas called Jesus Today {by the author of Jesus Calling}. 3.  Bake Christmas goodies for gifts.  See #1.  And it was so much fun.  And so much deliciousness.  We even have a handful of chocolate covered pretzels still left! 4.  Send Christmas cards and do a Christmas craft. Christmas cards – I designed them and had them printed.  They sat on my kitchen… Read More

Goals for the new year

via 2014 has come and gone.  And I’m excited for the new adventures of 2015! I’m really into lists because they keep me on track.  This year, thanks to blogland, I learned the effectiveness of writing monthly goals. So… for the last few days, my brain has been casually tossing around some goals.  And none seemed to “click.”  Until I read Chelsea’s 6 questions to ask yourself first. And then it just all came together. What is one thing in my control that I want to be different next year?  Rolling with the punches. via I’m a planner.  I like… Read More

2014 | A year in review

There are some things I have really enjoyed since I’ve entered the blogworld.  One such thing, is making my monthly lists.  But over the past few weeks, I’ve also noticed that bloggers review their year.  So I’ve been excited to join in and do the same. {January} We rang in the new year with Katrina and Angelo. Every night we hang out with them is great.  But it was the first year since 2009 {our first in Newton} that we didn’t spend NYE with Scott and Sarah.  I’m excited to hang out with both couples on Wednesday night.  A low… Read More
