Weekending: the family edition

{Friday} Over the last five years, we’ve been fortunate enough to make multiple trips to Chapel Hill to watch basketball games and play with our nephews.  Somehow this was our first one of basketball season.  We traveled to CH, grabbed Zaxbys for dinner {shocked?} and picked Amy and the boys up from the airport. {Saturday} After some quality time shooting hoops and building towers with blocks, we took the boys to hang out during the Game Day festivities at the Smith Center. While Brady was hangin’ out with the big kids, we got some Jackson time.  As long as you’ve… Read More

The Studio | The Big Reveal

Friday = favorites.  And here’s my favorite thing right now! If you’ve been around here much lately, I’ve alluded to the fact that I’m working on some big things.  And I’ve even thrown a logo out at you… {two technically, but I didn’t like the first.} I’m so excited to finally announce that I’ve been working on some designs and here’s the first! Now, I don’t necessarily have everything in The Studio as ready as I want it, but… I didn’t want you to miss out on this graphic tee.  Because I think it’s the perfect thing to celebrate St.… Read More

The essentials | lemon + peppermint

I had seen essential oils floating around Pinterest and the bloggy blog world.  And then my sister did some research and jumped on board. I was just waiting for the right time to join the essentials crew also.  When InstaNatural reached out to me, there was no denying that it was the perfect time.  Because I was familiar with others who used essential oils, I assumed they send 1oz bottles like every other company.  These things are 4oz.  Seriously, that’s a ton of essential oil.  I may never run out! I knew they were a good alternative to medications but… Read More

Date night | the look + the meal

Us & date nights Ok, real talk here.  We’re not really good at “date nights.”  You know how some couples carve out time for each other once a week?  And they go and do fun things and put the rest of life on hold while they’re out? Yeah, not us.  We actually spend as much time together as possible.  But it’s doing things like organizing the office – we did that together on Sunday and we were both really excited about it.  Or we coach together.  There were many nights during basketball season that we would spend the evening watch 4… Read More

March goals

via Is it just me or are we all pretty excited to bring in a new month?  I really enjoyed the snow/ice that North Carolina got in February but I won’t turn down Spring weather!  {And I’m crossing my fingers that March is delivering on that one.} Here’s a quick look back at February’s goals. 1. New recipe.  I made a new soup on Thursday and David made a pasta recipe on Saturday.  Since we made them kind of late in the month, I haven’t had the chance to share them. 2.  Devotions on the weekends.  We’re getting better but… Read More

Friday faves

Favorites from this week… I bought these shoes.  And now I need to find some inspiration on the best way to style them.  A few days before, I was looking at the Steve Madden and JCrew versions of these.  I was so in love but I just didn’t want to spend $50+.  So when I happened upon them at Target for half price, it was love at first sight.  {Technically, it was second… but that just doesn’t sound as good.} The best part?  I bought them with a gift card.  Actually, we had a gift card snow day date this… Read More

Fashion {experiment} week | lipstick + sneakers

I’ve been wanting to try out the sneakers paired with something fancy look.  What better time to test the waters than Fashion {experiment} week?  I wear these sneakers all the time but they’re typically with a more casual outfit.  And red is way outside of my comfort zone.  Ok, maybe not way but it’s outside of it.  I’m not thrilled with how this shade of lipstick looks paired with the red but I do like the lipstick look in general. Tuesday’s experiment was stripes + dots.  Wednesday’s was sweater + summer dress. I’ve had so much fun experimenting this week.… Read More

Fashion {experiment} week | sweater + summer dress

I’m always looking for ways to extend the life of my clothes.  Two ways to wear is a big deal around here.  My summer dresses almost always get some love in the winter because I can throw a jacket, scarf and boots with it during colder months.  But a chunky, slouchy sweater over a short, summer dress?  This is a first for me.  I’ve been wanting to try this look after seeing many others perfect it. If you’ve missed out on Fashion {experiment} week, you can see yesterday’s post here. I have one more Fashion {experiment} week look prepared for… Read More

Fashion {experiment} week | stripes + dots

This week has a theme: Fashion {experiment} week.  If New York gets its own fashion week with designers, celebrities and runways… I’m creating my own.  But instead of Kim Kardashian {and clan}, Versace and beautifully staged runways, we have the street in front of my house, only 1 photographer and some fun new fashion ideas I’ve been wanting to try. Today’s look is mixed patterns. Last week, I posted some ways I was inspired to mix patterns.  This week, I actually experimented with it.  Yes, we’ll probably look back in 2025 and laugh at this look but where would we be… Read More
