Ariana,

Hello, my Little Love.  You’re learning and changing so much every day!  Those little smiles are so routine now and we even get a laugh here and there.  You like to “talk” and we love hearing what you have to say.  My favorite is when you get this high-pitched squeal.  With all this interaction, we’re constantly coming up with crazy things just to get a smile or laugh.  Your little legs just never stop kicking.

Early on, we were amazed at your ability to sleep through numerous basketball games but now you’re alert through many of them.  Alert, and drooling.  I’m assuming you’re working on some teeth because that drool is everywhere.  Combined with your nonstop spit up, clothes lasting all day isn’t even an option.

You’re now sleeping through the night regularly.  It’s not every single night yet but it’s probably 5 out of 7 nights.  I’m loving this!  It feels so good to get seven straight hours of sleep.  Let’s just skip right over this four month sleep regression thing, ok?

During tummy time, you’re only interested in chewing on your hands.  I think the point of the exercise is for you build your core and neck muscles but you couldn’t care less.  You just see it as easy access to your fingers and they pretty much stay in your mouth.  You do like your Bumbo seat, though.  I let you hang out in there while I unload the dishwasher and cook dinner.

My goal last month was to focus on getting you to sleep in your crib but I decided you first needed to become accustomed to falling asleep on your own in your rock & play sleeper.  I no longer rock you to sleep before laying you down; now I set you down when I know you’re tired and you fall asleep on your own.  Good job, Baby Girl!  Once you got really good at that, I started laying you down in your crib for naps.  We’ve only started this one about a week ago but you’re already sailing through this transition, too.

You’re also doing much better with a bottle.  Yay!  In the past, you’ve been picky about who would would take a bottle from and when you would take it.  So we tried a few different bottles, found one you liked didn’t hate and now you get one every day from Daddy.  It’s not always a smooth process but we’re getting there.  {Where do you think you got all that stubbornness from, Girl?}

You’re still full of smiles in the mornings and your waking up routine is at least a 20 minute process filled with lots of grunts.  You also do this thing where you pull your blanket over your face.  It worries me that you can’t breathe, so I pull it down.  Before I even leave the room, you usually have it pulled back over your face.  When Daddy gets home in the afternoons, he’s always so eager to see you.  He watches the monitor carefully and is ready to grab you at your first peep.

What will you be into next month?  I can’t wait to find out.

I love you more than you can imagine,

Mom
