As soon as we found out that this little treasure was a girl, I began Pinteresting nursery ideas. I knew I wanted to incorporate girly aspects without going the traditional pink route. I’m a huge fan of wall collages and inspirational quotes and gold was a must-have. I also wanted these pieces to be things that could grow with her and not be “babyish.” I’m really pleased with how it turned out. There were times when I felt like I lost my vision but then I was able to come back to it.
This is the view from the hallway door. David was most interested in helping select the chair because he wanted the back to be tall enough to rest your head against.
I found this idea on Pinterest, of course. This globe was spray painted teal and says YOU are our greatest adventure. I knew immediately that this would make an appearance in her room. Shout out to Kaitlyn for the hand-lettering. When she came to town a few weekends ago, I supplied the wine… she created this.
About a week and a half before I found out I was pregnant, I received this in my fortune cookie. Of course at the time, I had no idea that I was already carrying this sweet little one but once we put two and two together, this became really special. But because I’m not sentimental at all, I left the fortune in Megan’s car and she crafted this as part of my gift at one of the showers. Oh, and the table that this fortune and her headbands are on? It belonged to my great-grandmother so once Baby Girl gets here, it will have been in the family for 5 generations. Now, that’s pretty cool.
I’m such a fan of the detail in this frame. When I found it at Ikea, I wasn’t sure what would go in it, just that it would be a part of her nursery in some way. It’s a very odd size so when I looked into printing, it quickly became expensive. And then the genius idea came to me to write on wrapping paper. $4 for the paper; $2 for the gold Sharpie and boom, an inexpensive way to fill a large frame.
I knew the type of dresser I wanted so one day this summer, I went to the Salvation Army Restore. When we walked in, there was a sign saying everything was 25% off that day. I found one dresser that I thought might have some potential. I snapped a quick picture and sent it to Kaitlyn. Then I found this dresser and another family was looking at it. I knew immediately that I wanted it so as soon as they said they weren’t buying it, we had it purchased and loaded in about .7 seconds. I don’t even think I got around to sending a picture of this one to Kaitlyn until it was already home with us. And then Kaitlyn and mom came to town to refinish furniture for the weekend and got everything done in one day. It was incredible and I’m in love with this finished product.
We’re obviously waiting on a few newborn pictures to fill some of these frames and once we select a name, I’ll probably add an initial to the collage but this is it for now.
I’ve literally had this idea pinned since way before I was pregnant. Years, probably. This was once an old, ugly frame with a painting in it and Kaitlyn thrifted it for me. Then came the chalkboard paint in the center; then Dave spray-painted the frame gold; it started out as wood. I found this gorgeous gold glitter paper at AC Moore and used the di-cut machine at school to cut out these letters. Then I strung them with fishing wire and ooh-la-la. You can’t really tell from the picture, but it has a 3D effect when you look at it in person.
And that crib skirt? It has these gorgeous gold polka-dots and Mom figured out how to use my 80% off so I just have to buy it but I don’t know what I’ll use it for fabric. I wish you could see it better because it’s so perfect.
The dresser is filled with clothes and blankets; the closet with stuffed animals and toys. Your room is ready, Baby Girl, and so are we.
