If you’ve missed any of the pieces of our story, no worries. You can catch up on part one, part two, part three and part four.
Engaged life was really fun for us but also very busy. Let me recap:
David was living and working in Chapel Hill; I was living in Hickory and working a few minutes down the road in Maiden. We were 2+ hours apart and David often worked on the weekends.
Early December 2009, David got a job in Hickory and moved back to the area where he grew up.
I was coaching high school basketball at the time and I was a first year teacher. He got hired mid-year as a TA.
He popped the question on December 23rd.
On Christmas Day in Knoxville, my family started asking when we were going to get married.
Two teachers… the obvious answer is in the summertime. I never wanted a long engagement anyway. After looking at the calendar, and accommodating my sister and his brother, we had two weekends to choose from. One was July 4th weekend… and all I could envision was a red, white and blue theme… so we went with the only other option. July 24th quickly became the most important date on my calendar.
A few days after getting engaged, we celebrated 2010 with Scott and Sarah.
David and Scott grew up together and they have remained some of our closest friends over the last 5 years.
On top of regular life, our engaged days consisted of wedding planning, buying a house, and several showers and wedding parties.
T In an effort to save money, our engagement pictures were taken by my college friend, Ashten, and I love the memory of that day. I was actually really sick and felt terrible but she did such a great job capturing the moment that you can’t even tell.
Engaged life was great. I wish I had enjoyed it a little more, though. When you’re planning a wedding, you’re always looking for that next thing. Everything seems to revolved around how much time is left until the wedding. What’s the next thing that needs to be checked off the list? But I absolutely loved wedding planning. I’m weirdly obsessed with weddings and I’m pretty sure I’ll be a wedding planner in my next life. Actually, I would probably do it in this one if it didn’t mean giving up every Friday and Saturday night from March to November.
Our wedding day was more than I could have ever dreamed of. Every single detail was perfect. But, I’ll shut up now because I have an entire post devoted to the wedding coming up in a week or two. {So stay tuned.}
Tomorrow is the first thankful Thursday!
