High five for Friday!

Ahhh, Friday.  So good to see you.

This has been the first week of school for students {second week for teachers} so it’s been busy.  I came down with a terrible, miserable, knock-you-on-your butt kind of cold on Monday night.  Except I didn’t even know I was getting sick.  I just thought my throat was scratchy since I had talked all day.  But no… it turned into sore throat, stuffy nose, no voice, fever, the whole nine yards.  I kept praying for it to go away as quickly as it came on and I truly believe God took it away. It’s rough to be sick the first week of school.

I was planning to have a few more posts on the blog but that just didn’t go down this week.  But I have some good stuff in mind for next week!

On Saturday morning David went to help a friend so I took the opportunity to get a pedicure.  Fo freeeeee!  Kaitlyn had given me a gift card over a year ago and I finally put it to use.  {Seriously, why did I wait that long?}  It was so relaxing and the pedicurist {is that what they’re called?} was top notch.  It kinda made me wonder why I don’t live the pampered life more often.  {If you want to send a gift card my way, maybe I can live that life more often.}

I’m always glad to put a check mark next to the first day of school.  The first day consists of me going over the same syllabus three times in a row.  It may not sound exhausting, but trust me, it is.  This year, I just wasn’t feeling it so I changed up my routine a bit.  I made the kids do a little more work and I did a little less talking.  My classes have been really good this week.  I’m looking forward to the day when they know the routines, my expectations and I know their names.  Should happen in about another week or so. #orderintheclassroom

Since I was all sickly and miserable for a couple of days, David took care of me.  Anytime I’m sick, I’m always reminded what a great man he is. He brought home takeout twice, cooked once, ran to the store to get me meds {twice} and put up with a coughing, nose-blowing, neti-potting wife for a few days.  He’s putting a load of laundry in right now.  I know it wasn’t fun but he always goes out of his way to make sure he’s doing everything he can for me.

At open house last week I had a parent ask if I could use a volunteer.  Ummm… yes, please!  She came to my classroom Tuesday and Thursday… each time for over an hour.  How great is that?  After she left both days, I realized a lot more got crossed off my to-do list than normal.  And I can’t even take credit for that.  Here’s to keeping her around for a while.

The last several weeks of summer, I was trying to enjoy every last minute in my “normal” clothes.  Shorts, tshirts, sandals, tanks, tennis shoes, summer dresses.  But, ya know, I’ve actually enjoyed pulling out my back-to-school clothes.  My friend Katrina and I were able to hit up some great sales over the summer and we convinced ourselves that shopping for new professional gear would make us more excited to go back to work.  It has definitely worked {although I’m not sure our husbands always appreciated this decision}.

How was your week?  What do you have planned for the long weekend?  I’m going to rest, relax, and spend some time with friends and family.

  • Oh gosh, I totally feel you on the repetition of the syllabus. The first few days of school are the worst for that! And it takes awhile for my voice to get used to so much talking!! We don’t start until Wednesday, but I’m mentally preparing now. =) Have a great weekend!

    • Hope your school year started off well. I can’t believe you get to start after Labor Day!!
